"J.M.Spink organ builders have been responsible for the care of our
1894 Forster and Andrews organ since they rebuilt it 30 years ago. Not
only did they create a marvellous instrument at that rebuild but they
have continued to support us with maintenance and tuning. They have
reliably ensured the instrument was in tune prior to important events
and have given rapid response when urgent attention was needed so that
the organ was ready for the next Sunday service. We have no hesitation
in recommending J.M.Spink organ builders for tuning, maintenance,
repair or rebuilding work." St. John''s Church, Upper Hopton, Mirfield.

Mill Hill Chapel, City Square, Leeds, of which I am Director of Music, possesses one of Norman & Beard''s finest 3-manual organs (vintage 1910). It is not only used to provide splendid accompaniments in the services but, also, is extensively famed as a recital instrument. Since 1980 its maintenance has been in the very capable hands of J. Malcolm Spink. Indeed, during the last 20 years of the 20th century the instrument was enlarged at the Chapel''s instigation, the work involved in such being most skilfully accomplished by Mr. Spink, who provided a new scintillating Great 4-rank Mixture, extended the Choir 4ft. and 2ft. stops to provide flutes of 2 2/3ft., 1 3/5ft., 1 1/3ft. and 1ft pitches and, further, added 12 new pipes to the lower registers of the Great Tromba to provide the prepared-for and much-desired Pedal Trombone 16ft. The blending of these new registers to the existing tonal scheme was no mean task; the total result, however, has now provided a most worthy, fascinating and inspiring result, the Chapel now having a first-class and versatile instrument, fully capable of doing full justice to any period, style and scale of organ repertoire. The instrument has received praise from many, among the distinguished being Dr. Francis Jackson, John Scott Whiteley, Professor Ian Tracey and Dr. Simon Lindley.

Mr. Spink''s on-going maintenance and dedicated care of the instrument is second to none, his quality of attention, craftsmanship based on a lifetime''s experience and sheer capacity for the organ''s continued well-being appear to show no limits! His costs are fair and very competitive and his reliability is of the highest order. I recommend him as thoroughly as it is possible!

I first came into contact with Malcolm Spink in 2003 when we were looking at the possibility of removing the Organ from St Mark''s Church Dewsbury and installing it in Dewsbury Minster. From my very first meeting with Malcolm Spink I had every confidence in his thorough knowledge and many years experience in Organ Building.

This wasn''t going to be an easy project to install the St Mark''s Organ in the Minster as the layout of the Church had been somewhat altered over the years. Many meetings took place and endless phone calls between Malcolm and myself also the Church Authorities and Architect. Malcolm''s professionalism and confidence in the Project kept us all focused throughout many setbacks.

Finally, the day came when the Organ could be removed from St Mark''s and stored in the Minster. This also presented many other problems as major building works were going on in the Church (New underfloor heating and Lighting) Parts of the Organ had to be moved several times to accommodate the workmen. Malcolm again accommodated all these requests as he was always more than happy to assist. During the installation of the Organ I was often in the Minster eager to see the progress of the instrument. At this point I would like to add my total admiration to Malcolm and his son Antony who are true Craftsmen when it comes to Re-leathering Bellows, making new actions and not least of all the Beautiful Casework which fits in so nicely and compliments the rest of the Worship Area.

The Organ was evolving all the time with New Ranks of Pipes being added and old pipework being revoiced. This again was done to the highest standard and blends beautifully with the rest of the Organ. The end result has provided the Minster with a Magnificent Organ which we are thoroughly delighted with. I have no hesitation in recommending J M Spink Organ Builders for Restoration, General Maintenance and Tuning. Words may seem inadequate for the work that has been achieved. The biggest Testimonial would be for you to come and hear the Organ for yourself.
